Jeff Bezos’ Amazon Stake Dips Below 10% as Divestment Continues
Jeff Bezos has reduced his ownership in Amazon (AMZN) to under 10% for the first time, marking a significant retreat from the company he founded three decades ago. Regulatory filings show his stake now stands at approximately 9%, down from 10.1% a year ago, following the sale of over 100 million shares. This trend began in earnest after he stepped down as CEO in 2021, handing the reins to Andy Jassy.
The decline is stark compared to Bezos' 43% ownership at Amazon's 1997 IPO. While he remains the largest individual shareholder, his focus has shifted to Blue Origin, philanthropy, and personal ventures. Notably, ex-wife MacKenzie Scott also slashed her stake by 42% in the past year, now holding 81.1 million shares.
